Lenovo Laptop will not Restart

Ever since the October update my laptop will not restart no matter what I try.  Any time a restart is needed, I have to use the start menu “shut down” option or press the power button to “shut down” the laptop then Restart it.

I have tried disabling the Fast start up power option, I tried the start menu Restart option, I have made sure that all O/S updates are applied, I have made sure that all drivers are up to date, I have tried using CMD prompt as Admin “shutdown /r”  or “shutdown -r” to restart & it fails.

Any ideas that would cause the Restart procedure to fail from running successfully?

Thanks for ANY ideas

Hello Anthony, let’s try the repair startup tool:

  • Select the Start  button, then choose Settings .

  • Select Update & security  > Recovery.

  • Under Advanced startup select Restart now.

  • After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair

Come back and tell me how it went and don’t hesitate if you need further help. Good luck!

Thanks for the input.  I have already reinstalled the O/S from scratch with clean install.  I have tried just about everything.  I contacted the SSD manufacturer and am getting a replacement drive.  Lenovo checked out the system and suggested that I reinstall the O/S on an alternate drive and see if it works.  It did, so I reinstalled it on the main SSD drive and the same problem exists.  So it has been determined that it is a faulty SSD NVME.

Hope my experience helps someone else.

End thread.

Thanks

You’re always welcome. I would like to thank you for coming back and reporting this. We will include your case in our reasons behind the problems and will guide people through checking their SSD.
