Microphone works with other devices, not my PC

Hey buddy. I’m new to owning a pc, let alone trying to sort out technical problems. I ordered a desk mic and it works with my phone, but not my pc. The pc recognises it and it is set as default etc, but when testing it no green bars come up.

My motherboard is a msi z270-A pro, and I’ve gone to the website and downloaded the updated drivers with no luck

Hey advill,
well since you have updated the audio drivers and other motherboard drivers, it leads us to a fewer solution:

  • Make sure you have the latest Windows update.
  • If you are connecting the microphone to the front audio panel please try to unplug it and connect it to the back of your PC.
  • Make sure your microphone doesn’t need special drivers to be installed.
  • Disable all other recording devices and give it a few restarts.

Tell us once you tried all of these and we will be looking for more solutions for you! Good luck!

Hi Mina,
Thank you for the response. I’ve had a look through your suggestions and none of them have worked I’m afraid! Windows is up to date, I’ve tried it with both microphone slots, no information about drivers is given so I’ve assumed it’s null, and I don’t have any other recording devices!
I’m really sorry about the hassle.

If it helps, the microphone I got is here. It’s supposedly “plug and play,” which it is for my phone (once I use the headphone adapter), just not my desktop

It’s totally okay, we will find a solution. But first I want to recheck downloading the drivers from here (make sure you specify your exact Windows version from the list before downloading and installing the driver):
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-A-PRO.html#down-driver&Win10%2064<a href="https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-A-PRO.html#down-driver&Win10%2064″><br />Don’t forget to restart your computer for a couple of times and trying the microphone again…
I’ll keep on looking for solutions for you, don’t give up!

Okay I’ve re-downloaded, reinstalled, and restarted my computer twice with no luck. I just want to check, but I’ve been installing the “On-Board Audio” driver, is that right?

Yes it’s right! humm… I’ll be looking for more solutions for you, keep using your computer for another couple of days and I’ll tell you whenever I find something new.

Hey there!
I just wanted to drop a quick update. I needed the microphone for a piece of coursework, but I’ve now recorded that using the mic with my phone. There is a lot less urgency for me to fix it, but of course if I can get it working I’d like to ^^

Sounds great! I’ll really do my best… Take a look at the guide once again and make sure you followed each step until I find something new. https://win10faq.com/fix-microphone-settings/
